The AskOnline portal has an simple front end that our students have no problem getting into, but even better is a back end administration system that allows me to see who has signed up for assistance, which tutor assisted, how long they spent tutoring or responding, what responses were sent etc. I can pull data for reporting purposes easily and quickly. I love this program. I can schedule tutors for online assistance (synchronous) or students can just submit essays or questions at any time. When someone has submitted something, the program sends out an email to notify the tutor on duty. This way tutors can keep up with the demand, can work from home or school and turnaround time is minimal.

Last night, a student came in requesting help with her essay. Her speech was slurred, and I had a very hard time communicating until I realized she was deaf. We began writing notes to each other; however, this was a very slow process. I finally suggested that we should use the computer for faster communciation. At this time, I recommended that she use AskOnline.net and explained that doing this, she could use the chat line and submit her papers. I helped her register and began to demonstrate the chat line. I signed in and immediately got a response. When the student saw this, her eyes widened and all she could get out was "Oh, oh, oh." I explained to the online tutor that the student was deaf and that she would be using the chat line frequently. The tutor replied that she was very anxious to help. The student's face actually began to shine and her hands shook with excitement. I showed her how to submit a paper, and after many thank yous, she proudly told me she was going to learn how to say my name perfectly...............and she did. Today I received an email from her. She is still extremely excited and hopeful that learning is going to be a lot easier for her. This is why we teach. This project is a good thing... It is worth every cent. Thank you for working so hard and getting it started.
